Frequently Asked Questions

OK- FAQ.png

We know choosing the right groomer for your dog comes with lots of questions—and that’s completely okay.

To make things easier, we’ve put together answers to some of the most common questions we hear from pet parents just like you.

Our goal is to give you peace of mind and help you feel confident about bringing your furry friend to us. From what to expect at your appointment to how we keep pets safe and comfortable, you’ll find helpful information right here.

If you ever have a question that isn’t covered, we’re always happy to help, just give us a call or use the form on the Contact page — your pup’s comfort and your trust matter to us.

1

How often should my dog be groomed?

Every dog is a little different! Coat type, age, activity level, the season, and your personal preferences all play a role. Most dogs do well on a 4–8 week schedule.

If you'd like a grooming plan tailored specifically to your pup, feel free to give a call—we’re always happy to help.

2

What is a Teddy Bear Cut?

A teddy bear cut is a soft, fluffy style that gives dogs that adorable “stuffed animal” look. The coat is trimmed to a uniform length (usually ¼" to ⅝") and the face is rounded to create that sweet, cuddly expression. It’s loved for both its cuteness and its easier maintenance.

3

How do I keep my dog from getting matted or tangled?

Consistency is your best friend. Regular brushing—daily or a few times a week—helps prevent tangles and removes loose fur. A slicker brush and comb work great, especially on trouble spots like behind the ears, under the legs, and around the collar area.
If mats do appear, address them right away with a detangling spray and gentle brushing. Clean hair mats less, but washing a matted coat will make tangles worse, so be careful.
If you’re a hands-on learner, our groomers would be happy to show you proper brushing techniques in person

4

What is included in a grooming session?

Our full groom includes everything your pup needs to look and feel their best:

  • A soothing bath with high-quality shampoo and conditioner

  • Blow-dry with a leave-in conditioning spray

  • Thorough brushing

  • Nail trimming

  • Ear cleaning

  • A personalized haircut

  • A finishing spritz of cologne and a cute bow or bandana

Your dog walks out clean, comfy, and looking adorable.

5

Can I stay with my dog during grooming?

For safety and insurance reasons, we ask that pet parents return once the grooming is complete. Dogs tend to wiggle, cry, or try to get to their owner during the groom, which can quickly become unsafe when sharp tools are involved.
We work on each pet straight through unless they need a break, so rest assured—we’ll reunite you both as soon as your pup is ready.

6

When should I introduce my puppy to grooming?

The earlier, the better! Puppies can usually begin grooming around 8 weeks old. We keep these first visits short, gentle, and fun—lots of play, treats, and positive experiences.

Our goal is to build trust and set your puppy up for a lifetime of stress-free grooming visits.

7

Can you groom older dogs?

Absolutely! Senior pups deserve all the comfort and care. Please let us know about any health issues so we can make them as comfortable as possible.
We groom older dogs straight through so they’re not waiting or standing too long, and we offer plenty of breaks—or supportive belly bands—to relieve pressure on their joints.

If your senior pup needs extra accommodations, just give us a call ahead of time. We’re happy to help.

8

What if my dog is matted?

Matting can be painful, and depending on how severe it is, the kindest option may be to shave the coat. We understand that life gets busy—no judgment here.
We also offer in-between brush-out appointments, and we’d be happy to show you how to prevent matting at home.

Comfort will always come before style, and we’ll guide you through the best options for your pup.

9

What if my dog is aggressive during grooming?

Please let us know about any behavior concerns before the appointment. The more we know, the better we can keep everyone safe.
Several of our groomers specialize in working with anxious or reactive dogs. We have muzzles, cones, and calming techniques when needed, and we’ll always try to create the safest, least stressful experience possible.
If grooming becomes unsafe for your dog or the stylist, we’ll stop the appointment and talk through alternative solutions that might work better.
